Spotlight: Carters Collective

Shop a beautiful range of handmade homeware and naturally produced products available locally at Carters Collective. We chatted to the team behind the brand and subsequently found out more about their latest releases.

What did you study before launching Carters Collective?

I studied at Varsity College in Sandton, where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Business Management.

We’re finding more and more Consumers expect companies to have a sustainability focus. What is Carters Collective doing to address this?

Carters Collective focuses on natural produce sourced within South Africa, where we have unprivileged female staff members that come from our local communities within the country, who hand make and produce our items, providing them ultimately with a source of income for their families.

What’s the secret behind your collections?

We produce first-in-the-country products as well as often first-in-the-world product releases, as we design these items from scratch.

What is your personal favourite piece in your current collections?

My personal favourite piece is The Lee Line wall hanger, as this piece was released on Woman’s Day in 2021. It symbolises the natural beauty of women as well as encompasses the struggles that women face in our society today.

Any collaborations or projects you are working on?

Right now we have been focusing on releasing new limited edition products to the market space. The new Willow Wall Hanger is one of the latest concepts + creations. It is more than just a fibre art wall hanging item; it is a masterful work of art that takes centre stage as a gallery showcase piece within any room it is placed. The Willow is comprised of local South African material: hand crafted black MDF board, 100% Natural Jute Rope, 100% Natural Cotton Cord + Natural Cotton Rope intertwined with contrasting 100% Black Cotton Cord. Various hand-woven macrame techniques have been incorporated to create the abstract pattern which joins all the cord elements together collectively.
