We love brands that go the extra mile to make the festive season magical! At Frans Alexander, the team loves the Christmas season and whether you celebrate Christmas or not, everyone can be a part of the magic of the festive season.

Decorations and magic

Is there anything more spectacular than a bold, beautiful Christmas tree? And who more than Martha Stewart to turn to when buying the perfect tree. What makes any Christmas tree unique and special are the ornaments and decorations.Hand blown ornaments are not only unique but also beautiful and eye-catching.

At Frans Alexander you can order hand-blown glass baubles in your specified colours. Their theme this year is Gold white and midnight blue. These gorgeous baubles were hand blown by a South African glass artist and even added 24 karat gold. The baubles are R320 each. They also offer beautiful memory baubles to remember that loved one who is no longer with us.

Festive gifts

It’s year-end and we’re all looking for the perfect party gift. At Frans Alexander you’ll be spoilt for choice but we particularly love their Molton Brown baubles that add the festive season to any luxury bath time.

Another great Christmas gift idea is engraved names on glass baubles filled with mistletoe.

Christmas time is often filled with love, laughter, great food and enjoying time with friends and family. It can take months planning the perfect Christmas eve dinner and desert is, without a doubt, a highlight. We love sharing old recipes and meaningful together. The below Vinegar Pudding recipe comes from Frans Alexander who’s great grandmother Mala was a formidable woman and she could cook and bake the most delicious Christmas dinners. Frans has added a little secret that makes this pudding a real star. Serve hot with homemade custard. Below is the recipe of this special treat.

On the stove bring to a boil then turn off and set aside:

  • 500ml Brown Sugar
  • 1 liter water
  • 2 Table Sp Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon
  • Ingredients for pudding
  • 250ml Butter
  • 250ml Brown Sugar
  • 2 Eggs

Mix all together until creamy. Add the following to the mixture sifted.

  • 750ml Cake Flour
  • 4 Tsp Ginger Powder
  • 2 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • In a separate bowl mix
  • 2 tsp Baking Soda to 500ml Milk and mix well then add to pudding mixture.
  • Add 3 Tbl Sp Apricot to pudding mixture and mix well.

Set oven to 180 degrees fan top and bottom heat. In a large oven proof bowl, first add the sauce then add the pudding mixture DO NOT mix.

Place in oven for 60min. The secret is when the pudding has been in the oven for an hour you make a caramel sauce!

  • 2 table spoons butter
  • 125ml Castor Sugar or Brown Sugar
  • 250ml FRESH Cream Room Temperature

Add the sugar and the butter into a non-stick pan on low to medium heat and let the sugar melt. Once it’s melted add the cream and bring to a simmer.

Remove and pour over the pudding. Stick a knife into the pudding allowing the sauce to steep.

Place the pudding in the oven for a further 20min and thereafter turn the oven off and leave the pudding in the oven until it’s time to serve.
