Designed in harmony with nature

Ronel Jordaan™ has over twenty years of textile design experience. One day, she embarked on a new creative journey, experimenting using felt as a medium. Entirely self-taught and following her own artistic instincts, Ronel began to turn fine gossamer thread into robust felted forms by patiently rubbing and coaxing threads of pure wool into nature-inspired shapes. In this way, Ronel discovered her passion and started up her own home business. She trained a group of women to help her and, recognised for originality and uniqueness, the team’s creations found an immediate market. The Ronel Jordaan™ label is harmonious with nature, not only in terms of inspiration but in that all processes implemented are eco-friendly.

WATER: Waste grey water is recycled into organic food gardens where the lush sun-drenched garden grows in containers on the factory grounds. Situated in a small industrial suburb in Johannesburg, South Africa, these vegetables – mostly morogo and spinach- are available for the women to take home or sell. SOAP: Essential to the felting process, all soap used is made locally and is and fully bio-degradable. DYES: Although the dyes are imported from Germany, they have been specifically chosen because they are lead-free and meet European Eco-Standard.
ANIMAL RIGHTS AWARENESS: Unlike Australia, South African farmers do not practice mule-sing – docking sheep tails to prevent flystrike. NO CARBONISATION: Wool traditionally undergoes a process called carbonisation whereby a bath of hydrochloric acid and other chemicals are used to clean the wool. In this way, chemical residue is left in the wool and the fine protective hair follicles are also stripped away. This is a process that Ronel Jordaan™ is proud to reject. 100% SOUTH AFRICAN: Finally, all the wool used to craft the Ronel Jordaan™  product range is proudly and undeniably South African.
