We understand that whatever it is you’re wanting to be framed is obviously something that’s really special to you or your loved one, which is why you’re having it framed of course. Rest assured that Orms know exactly what they are doing and will handle your item with the greatest care.

But if you need a little more reassurance here’s a little inside look at what goes on in the framing factory.

Today we going behind the scenes to give you a little glimpse inside the Orms picture framing factory in Cape Town. They offer a wide range of traditional picture framing techniques, from cut-&-join framing and conservation framing to shadow box framing, block mounting, custom framing, canvas stretching and more. Your journey will most likely start here with Rita or one of the other framing consultants who will assist you with some ideas and advice if you are not quite sure where to start.  Have a look at some behind the scenes photographs of the team and the factory while we explain a few of the different framing options available to you here at Orms Print Room & Framing.

Traditional Picture Framing:  Apart from conventional cut-&-join framing, Orms has become the leader in custom framing, with expertise ranging from frame design to master reproduction. They specialise in numerous framing and mounting procedures and go out of their way to meet your needs and turn your vision into a reality.

Custom Picture Framing:  Orms not only manufacture frames from scratch to your specific measurements, they’ve also perfected the Duco spray-painting technique resulting in a silky smooth, colour finish on almost any surface – a popular choice amongst artists and galleries.

Conservation/Total Archival Framing:  The choice of museums, collectors and art investors, conservation or total archival framing ensures a lifetime of protection or preservation of an artwork. With 20 years experience in this particular speciality, Orms have mastered the fine art of conservation or archival framing:

  • They import the highest-quality museum glass from Germany. This glass is 98% UV resistant with extraordinary non-reflective properties.
  • They mount onto various archival substrates of which Dibond® is the most commonly used worldwide.
  • They are the sole agent of Diasec® in Africa, making South Africa one of only eight countries in the world licensed to perform this exclusive archival face-mounting procedure.

Shadow Box Framing:  A popular contemporary method of framing, shadow box framing is a great way to frame those precious 3D objects or collector’s items. Box-like in profile, shadow box framing uses various frame depths to achieve different effects. Orms can achieve different depths (up to 100 mm) and offer an extensive range of colours from which to choose.

Cold Mounting: If you have a valuable print you’d like framed, but want it protected during the framing process, cold mounting is your best option. No heat is used in the adhesion process, so the risk of damaging your print during the mounting process is greatly decreased. Orms cold mount onto:

  • Triplex
  • ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
  • Dibond®
  • Aluminium
  • Foamcore

Turnaround time:
Approximately 10 days, depending on the complexity of the frame chosen.
