Established in 1970 by Joe Meschede, Templars Antiques specialises in English 18th and 19th Century furniture, paintings and silver. In Joe’s day, he was considered the doyenne of antique dealers in South Africa and in 1975, he was elected as president of the South African Antique Dealers Association.
In the early 1980s, Templars Antiques branched out to include both local and international portfolio collections. During the mid 1990’s, the company initiated an association with Custodian Superintendent, a group of specialists who were dedicated to preserving art around the world. This gave the company unique access to iconic pieces of art in private collections and auctions all over the globe.
In 2011, the family decided to open a new showroom in the heart of Sandton. The showroom is set on a private estate near the Hyde Park shopping centre.
Today, Templars’ prime aim remains the same; to bring some of the world’s most quintessential traditional and contemporary home collections, obtained through an ever-expanding international network, to South African décor and design enthusiasts.
