We Flock – Claudette Maskell
W E – F L O C K is a collection of hand printed fabrics and illustrations by Claudette Maskell.
Claudette Maskell started the collection at the end of 2011 from her tiny garage in Somerset West. She received a stand as an Emerging creative at Design Indaba 2012, and this has helped her to establish her products within the South African market. Subsequently she has moved her studio to Woodstock, Cape Town where she now creates and prints all her fabrics and illustrations.

All illustrations for the collection are first drawn by hand with a variety of mediums including ink and brush, acrylic, watercolour and pen, and are then digitally re-worked and finally screen printed onto high quality fabrics or paper. Claudette will soon be producing high quality archival prints.
“The name, WE-FLOCK, came to me by chance but its significance lies in the fact that we are all naturally drawn towards that which we feel is beautiful and/or intriguing.”- Claudette Maskell.

The fabrics and prints combine organic ink illustrations with elements of geometric patterning and printmaking. Claudette is very much influenced by street art, graffiti, pop culture, symbolism as well as elements of mysticism and tribalism both in cultures, religions and mother nature. Living in the city, she is constantly inspired by city life and the tension between that which is man made and that which mother nature creates. She enjoys creating unexpected combinations filled with intricate detail, patterning and line work.
